Welcome to My Class!

 Hello Archway Lincoln Families!

My name is Connor Magiera and I am the new 3rd-5th grade Art teacher here at GH Archway Lincoln. I am inordinately excited to start teaching art to your scholars! Born and raised in Arizona, I grew up with a pencil and paper always in my hand drawing whatever I could to exert my imagination, when I finally graduated high school I set off to NAU to study Graphic Design and illustration. After realizing the snow wasn't for me I traveled back down to the scorching heat to study at ASU and receive my BFA with a focus in drawing and illustrations. While studying at both universities, I lent a helping hand to other students within the Fine Arts program and shared my knowledge as a tutor, instruction assistant and studio assistant to make sure no art goes unfinished. Since graduation I focused on technical, digital and traditional pieces to build my portfolio to a higher standard, focusing on my craft and building my fundamentals to new heights.

This is my first year at Great Hearts and I plan on continuing the legacy of teaching traditional mediums to students. We will study the amazing works of western artists that flourished from the Greek and Roman civilizations, Renaissance masterworks, Neoclassical illustrations, to the beautiful romanticized paintings of Italy. I will focus on observation, fundamentals and master works to establish core skill building techniques. My goal is to provide an education of art that establishes that not only the core principles of Truth, Beauty and Goodness but to establish fundamental skillsets that allow your scholar to create their own works of beauty.

It is my promise as your child's leader, that I will help your students find and create beauty for not only you and your family, but the world to see. I will encourage your scholar to not only become a successful artist but a keen observer in the world of beauty around them.

Thank you,

Connor Magiera

Below is a little bit more about me and some of the works I produced while studying at NAU and ASU.

In my free time I love to to sketch architecture and buildings, this artwork was a small sketch I did of a Spanish-Colonial style main street. I sometimes just pick up a pen and paper and sketch out ideas that are stuck in my head. Small sketches like this is the reason why I graduated on the deans list, I find that even the smallest sketches can progress your fundamentals to new heights.

This was one of my Horror-Vacui pieces I completed in my time at ASU. (Horror-Vacui - a fear or dislike of leaving empty spaces, especially in an artistic composition). As you can tell so far I am fascinated with amusement and theme parks. This is a 24x36 piece that I completed mainly using ink pen and brush techniques.

This is one of my most prized pieces, and I am very proud of myself for completing such a feat. Standing tall at four feet, this ode to architecture was completed mainly by using graphite and ink brush. I was extremely happy to finish such a large work, it took me around 50-60 hours to complete and it stood tall at ASU's gallery for a couple of weeks at my exhibition.

Lastly I will show this little sketch. I love using perspective in my pieces with a balanced composition. I regularly sketch from imagination and use architecture as my vehicle. Whether its a city that doesn't exist or beautiful works of Venice, I always appreciate the lines and shapes manipulated by these master Architects.

More About Me

Recently engaged, my fiance Katy Patin and I share a passion for passing knowledge to younger generations. Not only is she an amazing teacher to younger minds at the kindergarten level but she is my beautiful future wife. Most of my days are spent with her and I couldn't be happier with anyone else! Here is Katy and I graduating together but at two different universities.

Yes she did graduate from NAU although my hat says different.

Here is Jack-Jack, my cat I have had for about eight years now. He is super fluffy, gentle and just a joy to have in my life. He is always there when I'm sketching and I consider this the best art buddy I have ever had.

I hope you learned a little bit about me today. I am so excited to share my passion with your scholar and I am eager to start my career as a passionate leader and a cultivator of Truth, Beauty and Goodness.

Thank you so much for learning about my craft and my life. Can't wait to meet everyone August 5th!
